The event kicks off with a 10 a.m. walking tour: "Agents, captains, wives and crews: New London's Whaling History." Meet for this 90-minute tour in front of the cemetery office building just inside the gate at 638 Broad St. The tour will be led by Gail B. MacDonald, University of Connecticut journalism professor, president of the Cedar Grove board of directors and author of two local history books.
At 1:30 p.m., historian William Hosley will lead an illustrated lecture focusing on cemetery art, titled "America's First Sculpture: CT Gravestones." Hosley is a former director of the New Haven Museum and the Hartford-based Connecticut Landmarks. This 90-minute event will be held at The Place for CommUNITY Wellbeing (formerly the American Legion Hall), located at 74 Garfield Ave.
Finally, take in the fall colors at a 4 p.m. walking tour "Colonial-era stories of hardships and happiness from the Second Burial Ground." Using…
