High School Hallways, Pandemic-style

Laurie Gorham

These two photos illustrate the dichotomies of the pandemic for me. On the one hand bleak, empty, and hard; on the other, sunny, colorful, designed.

Lines on the floor outlining where you may walk and round decals reminding children to social distance with their feet feels disturbing and impossible to me. I can’t imagine what it must be like for students attending school right now.

Like children do, I’m sure they don’t take notice of a lot of it. Like the surface beneath our feet, the pandemic runs in the background, invisible, but far-reaching.
